- From Emma Elekwa, Awka

One person lost his life yesterday night while scores were seriously injured in a cult clash in Nkpor, Idemili North local Government Area of Anambra State.

The suspected cultists who numbered about 20 and were said to be members of Aye Fraternity, were said to have shot the deceased, identified as Ifeanyi Emerie, while another person fled with a gunshot injury.

Scores were also said to have sustained various degrees of injuries in the clash which took place within streets in Adazi -Ani, Amaokpala, Our lady’s, Ozigbo and All Saints area.

Daily Trust learnt that the cultists had on arrival to the said streets around 9pm, shot indiscriminately into the air.

There were two conflicting reports to the incident that led to the death of the deceased, an indigene of Ukwulu in Njikoka Local Government Area.

While one source had it that a rival group, Baga (Akpa ) Fraternity had earlier attacked Aye which made it to embark on a revenge mission, another source said his death was as a result of his refusal to join Aye despite repeated efforts and pleas by members.

Confirming the incident, the Ogidi Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Mr Mark Ijarafu, said he had sent his men to deposit the corpse at the Iyi-Enu Mission mortuary, Ogidi, and no arrest had been made
