Re: Lunatics don’t unite!

-

Iam saddened by Mr. Eugene Enahoro’s article titled, “Lunatics don’t unite!” for once more abusing the privilege offered you by the daily trust newspaper medium to once more castigate a section of Nigeria, the North.

You started your article by lamenting on the lack of unity amongst Nigerians using the analogy of a lunatic asylum and the three guardsmen. Subsequently, you claimed that the symptom of Nigeria’s disunity is the recent declaration of quit notice on Igbos living in the north by Arewa Youth group.

You intentionally forgot the sustained agitation for secession from Nigeria, the lies and that extreme hatred propagated by your kinsmen, the Igbos on the rest of the country. You did not refer to the killing of upright leader of the north and south west during the first republic by the selfish and ingrate power mongers of Igbo extraction, an act the sowed the seed of mistrust amongst Nigerians till date.

You attempted to diminish elder statesman, Prof Ango Abdullahi’s opinion about recent events in Nigeria even though you lack the credibility and credentials to challenge the Professor’s pedigree in Nigeria, typical of your people’s disrespect for elders.

Finally, you lamented on the national assembly’s refusal to pass the south east commission bill. You forgot that the south east fought the rest of Nigeria for close to three years leading to avoidable death of millions and retrogression of the nation. Yet, Yakubu Gowon, the then Head of State ensured their complete reintegration into normalcy within the shortest time possible. South easterners went back to the north and south west that they still deeply despised and recovered their landed properties, lived freely and made fortunes without discrimination, yet they still never saw anything good in this regions of Nigeria.

The face and mouthpiece of the south east, MASSOB and IPOB refer to Nigeria as a zoo, in an uncommon and primitive derision. They tell lies and haul insults on the entire Nigeria, yet none of their leaders has so far spoken to them a word of caution out of fear or collusion. The secessionists have been advised to commence the great trek back home yet they could not move an inch, what a paradox.

Mr. Enahoro, northerners admire and respect the opinion of its elders especially that of Prof. Ango Abdullahi, an intellectual giant, we stand with him and no amount of lies and deceit will make us compromise our position. Idris A. Mohammed, Birniwa, Jigawa State.
