62,140 candidates to retake JAMB exams
The Registrar, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Is-haq Oloyede yesterday said 62,140 candidates have been given an opportunity to retake the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) following cases of misconduct.
The board had also agreed to cancel the exam results of 1,386 candidates involved in cheating at various parts of the country, he said.
Professor Oloyede made the remarks at a media conference shortly after a stakeholders meeting on the review of 2017 UTME report in Bwari, Abuja.
He said those that would retake the exams included 57,646 candidates involved in ‘centre-induced malpractice’ affected by general cancellation of results, 3,811 candidates with late registration and 683, who had biometric verification issues.
A total of 25 exam centres were involved in centre-induced cheating mostly masterminded by their proprietors.
He said the UTME was conducted in 140 examination towns and 642 centres which ran 7,359 sessions.
He said the board received various reports on cases of examination malpractices and looked into them.
Oloyede said the meeting approved the suspension of 24 ComputerBased Test centres for one year due to technical issues. The centres would not participate in the 2018 UTME but could be considered for 2019 and above.
“We also delisted 48 centres from participating in the board’s examination in the future due to technical deficiencies, extortion, organised examination malpractices, and other damaging infractions. We also approved Saturday, July 1, for the rescheduled examination,” he said.
