A non-governmental organisation (NGO), Onyebuchi Chris Ifediora Foundation (OCIF), has offered scholarships to 15 secondary school students from low income families in Anambra East Local Government Area in Anambra State.

The scholarship awards covered 10 senior and five junior students for one year, with refund of fees for both the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) and senior National Examination Council (NECO), while the junior award covered refund of fees for Junior Secondary Certificate Examination for 2017.

Speaking during the award ceremony at Agulueri, the benefactor, Dr. Onyebuchi Ifediora, said the foundation was set up to promote education in the area.

Represented by Barrister Onyechi Ononye, the legal adviser of the foundation, Ifediora said he believed in the education of youths who could achieve excellence in the development of their community.

“We hope to empower the youths to attain academic excellence irrespective of their financial background. We hope to support the next generation of leaders with qualitative education so that they can give back to the society,” he said.

In her reaction, the Principal, Community High School, Nsugbe, Mrs. Chinelo Okoro, said nine students benefitted from the school explaining that the students would not have registered for NECO or WAEC because of financial constraints.

A beneficiary, Obinna Eze, said the award would help him pay for his exams and overcome some learning difficulties.
