Peace Corps: Court vacation stalls N11m judgment debt order

- By Clement A. Oloyede

Court vacations scheduled to commence on July 10 has stalled the hearing of objections raised by the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) against the temporary order for payment of judgment debt.

A court had ordered the CBN to attach N11.2m belonging to NPF for the purpose of settlement of judgment debt incurred by the security agency against the Incorporated Trustees of the Peace Corps (PCN).

An FCT High court had granted the PCN an Order Nissi (temporary order) to attach N11,270,000 belonging to NPF with the CBN for the purpose of settlement of judgment debt incurred by the security agency in a suit against it.

The matter scheduled for yesterday for hearing of an objection by the NPF and another raised by the CBN could not go ahead.

The court was expected to determine the applications and thereafter deliver its ruling that would resolve to either give an Order Absolute or dismiss the Garnishee.

When the matter was mentioned yesterday, the judge, Justice Sylvanus Oriji said the court would not be able to hear arguments due to approaching vacation of the court on July 10 and therefore adjourned to September 26, 2017 after court resumption, to enable proper hearing and determination of the matter.

The case is between the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Attorney General of the Federation (Applicants) and the PCN, and it’s National Commandant, Dickson Akoh.
