FG moves to align roadmap with Africa Mining Vision
The Federal Government has assured of aligning its mining policies with that of the Africa Mining Vision as soon as possible.
The Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Alhaji Abubakar Bawa-Bwari, said yesterday at the workshop on the validation of the African Mining Vision Gap analysis, that the objective was geared towards identifying the gaps between the roadmap and the AMV, hence, promoting the domestication of AMV’s ideals in Nigeria.
Bawa-Bwari said already Nigeria’s mining roadmap shared many things in common with the AVM and that this administration had the political will to transform the sector.
He said developing the roadmap for the sustainable growth and development of the solid mineral sector was in response to the myriad of challenges and constraints bedevilling the sector and to enable the solid mineral sector reach its full potential by overcoming the constraints militating against its success.
“This roadmap was produced through a robust process of consultations and stakeholders’ engagements. This document was assented to by President Muhammadu Buhari and his alignment with the objectives of the African Mining Vision, which is to position the mining sector to quickly become an important contributor to the policy objectives of job creation and poverty reduction.
“It is instructive to remind us that the African Mining Vision (AMV ) was indeed adopted by the AU ministers in charge of mineral resources in 2008,” he said
