Group accuses Anambra gov’ship aspirants over Ubah’s continued detention
A group of youth in Anambra State have accused some politicians eyeing the office of the state governor of being responsible for the prolonged detention of the Chairman/CEO of Capital Oil & Gas Industries Ltd., Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah.
The youths, numbering about 2000, under the aegis of Youths for Credible Democrats of Nigeria (YCDN), said the aspirants were bent on keeping Ubah in detention to deny him contesting the November 28 governorship election in the state.
Addressing journalists in Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state, the group’s National Chairman, Comrade (Barr.) Okeke Godwin Chinemelu, said that holding the oil magnet in detention was to bar him from contesting the poll.
“Available information reveals that apart from what the oil mogul was accused of, he was arrested and detained because there are some aspirants that are afraid of him and would not want him to run.
“Ubah is one of the very few we were eyeing for endorsement for the coming governorship election in Anambra because of his strides in human capital development and job creation, especially for the youths.
“Unfortunately, there are some individuals that wouldn’t want him to run. This is unfortunate as far as this group is concerned.
“If our claim is wrong, we challenge the federal security outfit to charge Ifeanyi Ubah to court because his continued detention shows that the body is lacking in adequate evidence to try and send him to prison as they would desire,” he said.
