‘Plateau Peace Project now self-sustaining’
The European Union has spent over £1 million in funding the two phases of ‘Plateau Will Arise’, a peace architecture project in Plateau and parts of Kaduna State which has been engaging community stakeholders, civil society groups, as well as government, security agencies and community leaders on peace since 2013.
Daily Trust reports that the project which the promoters say has become selfsustaining, is organised and managed by the international peace organisation, Search for Common Ground (SFCG) and funded by the EU include the monthly Peace Architecture Dialogue (PAD) and the periodic Community, Security Architecture Dialogue (CSAD) which have now been handed over to the Plateau State Peace Building Agency for sustainability.
The Senior Programme Manager of SFCG, Sani Suleiman said at the project close out conference to formally handover the projects in Jos that as EU ended the funding circle of the project, another component of the project, the ‘Voices of Peace’ will continue to be produced and aired by the Plateau Radio Television Corporation (PRTVS).
Earlier, the Deputy Country Director for SFCG, Maxwell Saungweme, said the ‘Plateau Will Arise’ project had achieved its aim by creating peace architecture, dialogue platforms and early warning systems, adding that the project was now self- sustaining.
