Why natives are still being marginalised - FCT minister

- By Abubakar Sadiq Isah

The FCT Minister, Muhammad Musa Bello, has said that the reason behind the marginalisation of the natives of the territory is because they are lagging behind in educational attainment.

Bello explained this when he hosted natives of the territory under the aegis of Coalition of FCT Indigenous Group (COFIG), led by the group’s spokesperson, Yunusa Ahmadu Yusuf, at his Life Camp residence.

He advised them to ensure their youths are highly educated so that they can occupy relevant positions in the FCT and beyond.

He, however, said he was impressed that the people have started picking up the challenge to acquire education and urged them to sustain the tempo.

The minister said his administration will continue to operate an open door policy and was ready to accept any constructive criticism from the group and other stakeholders to ensure that the right thing is done for the natives of the FCT.

Responding, the spokesperson of the group thanked the minister for the warm reception accorded them.

Saying, however that the natives have being marginalised for too long, he urged the minister to intensify effort at looking into their, especially in terms of political and government appointments so that they can also have a sense of belonging.
