IPOB gives conditions for Anambra gov’ship
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has threatened that its followers would not participate in the November 18 gubernatorial election and other elections scheduled in any part of “Biafraland” unless a date is fixed for a referendum by the Federal Government.
IPOB also said its members would not be part of the 2019 general elections until their demands were met.
The group said it would campaign for a total boycott of elections until there was an agreement in principle for a date to democratically ascertain the will of the people of Biafra.
A statement issued yesterday by the group’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, said the body would no longer tolerate imposition of, “Hausa Fulani slaves in the guise of politicians in Biafraland.”
The statement said: “Until there is an agreement in principle for a date to democratically ascertain the will of the people of Biafra, IPOB will campaign for a total boycott of elections.
“Referendum for Biafra is all we are asking for, not war. It is the only civilised way to settle this burning issue of Biafra once and for all time.”
It alleged that the Federal Government planned to deploy 18, 000 new security operatives from other regions ahead of the Anambra State governorship election.
