Mkhitaryan sets Man Utd title target

-

Henrikh Mkhitaryan says Manchester United intend to “fight for the title” next season after achieving their goals in 2016-17.

The Red Devils collected three trophies during the first season for their Armenia international at Old Trafford, with Jose Mourinho delivering in his debut campaign at the helm.

Mkhitaryan is, however, aware that more is expected after Community Shield, EFL Cup and Europa League success helped to counter a sixth-place finish.

Restoring domestic dominance is now the target, with United setting their sights on the Premier League crown while also returning to elite European competition.

Mkhitaryan told the club’s official website: “The Champions League is where Manchester United belongs and we are all happy to be playing in this great competition again.

“For the new season we definitely want to fight for the title. “For the Super Cup, it should be a fantastic game against Real Madrid!”

Mkhitaryan believes United have the right pieces in place to mount more trophy challenges, with their manager leading from the front.

He added: “Jose is a winner. He works so hard to win every single game and to make sure that we are all ready to give 100 per cent.

“He gives us emotion, and motivation. I have learned a lot from him and will continue to do so.”

On his own personal targets for 2017-18, a man who found the target 11 times in 41 appearances last term added: “I’d love to score more goals and give more assists... and help the team win as many trophies as possible. I will give my best!”
