More tributes pour in for Danmasanin Kano
Aisha Buhari
The wife of the president, Aisha Muhammadu Buhari has expressed shock over the death of Alhaji Yusuf Maitama Sule.
Aisha, in a statement yesterday by her spokesman, Sulaiman Haruna, described Sule as a leading light of Nigeria, who availed himself “for national causes of cohesion, peace and stability.”
She condoled with the government and people of Kano State and the bereaved family in particular and prayed that Allah grant him aljannatul firdaus.
Shettima
Borno Governor Kashim Shettima, who participated in the funeral of the elder statesman, described Maitama Sule’s demise as one of the biggest losses Nigeria has suffered this year.
“From the view the Northern Governors’ Forum, the demise of Danmasani is the loss of one of our silent yet very strong pillars. There was never a time our forum sought meetings with our Northern elders that Danmasani failed to come. There was never a time any event directly or indirectly connected to the development of Northern Nigeria that he wasn’t there. The last event I was privilege to attend with him was a summit organized by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation in Kaduna about three months ago. That foundation is the creation of the Northern Governors’ Forum. He led the Northern Elders to Maiduguri about two months ago, all in effort to help in addressing the Boko Haram crisis and mitigate the pains of the northeast. For me, I regarded him as a book of eternal value.”
He condoled with Nigerians well as Government and the good people of Kano State.”
Nigeria Labour Congress
In a statement issued yesterday, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) president Comrade Ayuba Wabba said Alhaji Maitama Sule was a worker, a politician, a diplomat and a national icon who opened his doors to all Nigerians irrespective of their creed.
Wabba said, “Alhaji Maitama Sule was a nationalist and one of the last symbols of the golden era of Nigeria.”
He urged the governor to immortalize his name at the appropriate time.
ACF postpones NEC in honour of Sule
The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) postponed its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting earlier slated for today (Wednesday, July 5, 2017) in honour of late Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Sule.
The late ambassador was a founder and Board Trustee member of the ACF.
A statement by the national publicity secretary of the ACF, Muhammad Ibrahim Biu said a delegation under the chairmanship of IGP Ibrahim Ahmadu Coomassie will be at the funeral of the late ambassador.
Amosun
Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, described the death of Maitama Sule as a big blow to the nation.
The governor said “Today, we are not mourning, but celebrating a fulfilled life of an exceptional Nigerian, who lived and led by example.”
He acknowledged the oratory prowess of the late diplomat, which was laced with words of wisdom and fountain of knowledge, where his massive admirers and followers drank from.
Aregbesola
Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola described the late Maitama Sule as one of the last bastion of the original patriots whose interest was the growth of Nigeria and the Black race.
In a condolence message, Aregbesola said the late Maitama Sule was one of those leaders who shunned ethnicity and promoted national interests above all others.
Aregbesola said “On behalf of my family, the entire people and the government of the state of Osun, I offer my condolences. I also pray that may Allah overlook his deeds while here with us.”
Yahaya Bello
Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello eulogised the late elder statesman with a call on the federal government to immortalise him.
Bello in a statement in Lokoja by his Director General on Media and Publicity, Kingsley Fanwo, said Maitama Sule was a nationalist who was committed to the unity and progress of Nigeria during his lifetime. “He will be sorely missed by Nigeria and the world,” he said.
Obaseki
Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki described late Maitama Sule as a great leader, who contributed to peace, development and security in the country.
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. John Mayaki, Obaseki describe Maitama Sule as a great example to be emulated by the rest of Nigeria and other leaders in the sub-Saharan Africa.
He condoled with the government and people of Kano state and the nation on the demise of Maitama Sule.
Runsewe
The Director-General of the National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC), Otunba Olusegun Runsewe, commiserated with the family of Maitama Sule.
Runsewe, in a release, said Maitama Sule will be remembered for his contributions towards the development of Nigeria, especially in arts and culture.
Describing Maitama Sule as a true patriot, who spoke openly against the corruption, bad governance and discrimination along religious, political and ethnic divide.
Yoruba community in North
The Yoruba community in Northern Nigeria and Abuja have extolled the virtues of late Danmasanin Kano, saying his death has robbed the nation of a great nationalist and orator.
The chairman, Council of Yoruba Obas and Chiefs in the 19northern states and Abuja, Ambassador Mohammed Arigbabuwo in a statement said the late Danmasanin played the hard to fill role of making all Nigerians one irrespective of tribe and religion.
“As we mourn the orator, we equally thank Allah that allowed him to live to a ripe age and contribute his quota to the development of Nigeria from age 24.”
