Sultan advises youths against social media addiction

The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has advised the youths, particularly girls, to stop spending too much time on social media at the expense of other engagements that would add values to their lives.

He gave the advice at the closing ceremony of the 6th National Quranic recitation competition for nonArabic girls secondary schools hosted by Sokoto State.

“Girls are the nerve centre of our moral and societal development and if they derail, the whole society will be in danger because they are our mothers and caregivers,” he said

He advised parents to ensure their daughters rate were on other was spend more time on meaningful things, such as reciting the Holy Qur’an as doing so would make them better mothers and caregivers.

While congratulating the winners of the competition, he announced a gift of N10,000 to each of the 89 participants and N100,000 to the overall winner. He also promised to host the next edition of the competition.

In his remark, Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal commended RABIDA, an Islamic organization for organizing the competition which he said would go a long way in encouraging girls to memorize all the chapters of the Qur’an. Tambuwal announced a gift of a Hajj seat to Husna Nura from Katsina State who emerged the overall winner in addition to N150,000 cash and a deep freezer, among other gifts.
