‘We’II ensure adequate security for INEC officials’
The Chairman of Abaji Area Council, Alhaji Abdulrahman Ajiya, has assured that the council will provide adequate security for INEC officials deployed to rural communities for the continuous voters registration exercise in the area.
Ajiya stated this at a stakeholders’ meeting with the INEC officer deployed to the council on Friday.
He said since the commission has extended the ongoing voters registration exercise in FCT, the council will use the opportunity to ensure that those who could not register in the rural areas do so now.
He said there are eligible voters across some communities such as Jamigbe, Dogon Ruwa, Gasakpa, Mawogi and Gaskpa II who were unable to get registered.
“So on our part at the council level, we shall provide adequate security for the INEC officials and also ensure that the machines are secured. But the village chiefs will also play a role by ensuring that these officials are protected with their machines throughout the period of their stay in those villages,” he said.
Also speaking, the Ona of Abaji, Alhaji Adamu Baba Yunusa, said he was impressed with the move by INEC to extend the time of the continuous voters registration exercise.
He suggested that all the 10 councillors should also have a role to play since they were closer to their people.
