Plateau Utd restore five points lead as Sunshine win away

Plateau United have retained their five points lead at the summit of the Nigeria Profession­al Football League after thrashing visiting Akwa United 3-0 at the Rwang Pam Stadium in Jos yesterday. Emmanuel J was on target 22 minutes into the match, while Umeh E and Umar K completed the routing on the 86th and 90th minutes respective­ly.

The pride of Plateau State now have 51 points from 28 games, while second placed Mountain of Fir and Miracles (MFM) FC have 48 points from 27 games. The Lagos side will play Rivers United in a reschedule­d fixture at the Yakubu Gowon stadium in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.

The only away win of the day was recorded in Ilorin where hosts ABS lost 2-4 to Sunshine Stars of Akure. Oyedeji S and Anaekwe E were on target for the home team on the 62nd and 85th minute respective­ly, while Alimi S, Otegbeye A, Abiodun J and Thompson E made victory certain for the visitors.

Enyimba, who are third on the log with 44 points from 28 matches, also hammered visiting Niger Tornadoes 3-0 in Calabar. Ibenegbu I, Okonkwo C and Dimgba were the goal scorers for the two-time CAF Champions League winners.

In Enugu, Godwin Aguda’s strike on the 29th minute was cancelled out by Azeez A on the 76th minute as visiting Shooting Stars held their hosts to a 1-1 draw. Gombe United also defeated visiting El-Kanemi Warriors 2-0 with goals from Sani A in the 68th minute and a 90th minute strike by Bakare I. the same result was what Wikki Tourists defeated Kano Pillars in Bauchi.

At the Karakanda stadium in Katsina, Udechukwu C and Suleiman I were the goal scorers as United dismissed Lobi Stars 2-1. Tony Okpotu got the consolatio­n for the Makurdi side.

Emmanuel Makama scored an own goal, and Adetunji Samuel added one as Abia Warriors claimed all the three points against Nasarawa United.
