First Bank, Dolphins maintain dominance in Zenith Bank B’ball League

First Bank Basketball Club and Dolphins, both of Lagos started the fourth stage of the Zenith Bank Women Basketball League on a bright note in Ibadan.

The defending champions First Bank were in devastatin­g form as they whipped First Deepwater 102-62 on Saturday in Ibadan while Dolphins also defeated Ahip Queens 98-81.

Both sides are yet to lose a match in the series and they are tipped as favourites to meet in the final at the end of the Grand Finale in Lagos later in the month.

In other matches, IGP Queens defeated Plateau Rocks 54-44, Sunshine Angels piped Delta Force by just two points in a 67-65 victory, Customs defeated GT 2000 60-53 while Benue Princess managed to get the better of FCT Angels 56-54.

Yesterday was observed as a rest day with hostilitie­s to resume today with another round of seven games at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan.

It was learnt that due to the complaints from the players and officials, the competitio­n may be moved to the Liberty Stadium, Ibadan from Monday (today).

The Day 2 fixtures of the competitio­n will see Benue Princess clash with Plateau Rocks, Sunshine Angels take on GT 2000, First Bank will be up against FCT Angel, Dolphins will also clash with Delta Force, IGP Queens will take on First Deepwater while Customs and Ahip Queens will tango for honours in the last match of the day.

Six of the 14 teams currently competing for honours in Ibadan will be dropped as only eight teams will make the grand finale billed for Lagos.
