Osinbajo to Nigerians: Don’t expect perfection from us

- By Isiaka Wakili

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo said there is no way the present administration can be perfect, explaining that government is a behemoth where there are many problems.

The acting president was speaking at the Old Banquet Hall of the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja yesterday, during the Quarterly Presidential Business Forum.

He said the nation was fortunate to have a straightforward leader like President Muhammadu Buhari committed to “Ensuring government expenditure is spent the way it should be spent, and that people don’t do what they like.”

He stated: “To that extent, I think we’ve the right environment at least in terms of government discipline and all of that to be able to deliver on the promises we’ve made. And all I will just want to say to the private sector is, be sure that we have enough willing and able partners. There is no way we can ever be perfect. I mean government is a behemoth where there are so many problems and issues.”

The acting president, however, expressed confidence that if the government was focused, the country would witness a turnaround within the next 18 months.

“Day after day, night after night, we’re working on these things. Practically every night, we work on these issues. I believe very strongly that Nigeria will turn around. I’ve no doubt in my mind that if we’re focussed even in the next 12 to 18 months, if we’re focussed, we’ll certainly see a turnaround,” he said.

Osinbajo appealed to the private sector to collaborate with government in its efforts towards ensuring “that this happens to the Nigerian economy.”
