To new Jigawa LG chairmen

-

While congratulating the local government newly elected Chairmen were sworn in by the Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Muhammad Badaru Abubakar on the 3rd of July 2017 we wish to highlight and abreast them of what people expect of them.

The essence of establishing local governments as the third tier of government is to ensure that developments reach the common man at the grassroots.

The vast majority of the people of Jigawa State live in rural areas and engaged in agrarian activities, hence the need for the services of local governments to reach them so that their standard of living can be enhanced and they can have their fair share of the national development.

The council Chairmen elected to represent the people must create an enabling environment for consulting with people of their various LGAs for them to have a say in the formulation of policies that directly affect them and the need for effective dissemination of governments’ policies that affect them.

It has been observed over the years that local governments were turned in to an instrument of self aggrandizement and an avenue for plundering and or outright stealing of people’s resources.

You need to be advised, you should not assume office with the intent of been masters over the people that elected but be duty bound to serve the generality of the masses with humility, justice and fairness and have it at the back of their mind that they will be judged by history, posterity and Allah.

You should be fair and treat people with equity and justice, because that’s what will bring peace to the people, you and the society in general.

The local government functions concerned with minimizing risks to public health and the local environment, including the monitoring of water and air quality, hygiene in restaurants, motor parks, markets and stores, and pest control to hedge against the spread of diseases.

You should make the interest of the common man paramount and assist in reducing the menace ,threat and hazards associated with children loitering on the streets and begging which is not in any way in accordance with the religious norms and culture.

I also wish to advise you to pursue vigorously campaign for religious and tolerance for a harmonious living and economic development.

You should discharge your duties with utmost efficiency, dedication and fear of Allah.

People are watching you,so be vigilante of the praise singers around you.

I called on the Executive Governor of Jigawa State Alhaji Muhammad Badaru Abubakar to ensure that no local government Chairman is allowed to go unpunished for any wrongdoing, fraud, lethargic indifference while discharging his/ her duty.

It’s not easy winning an election 100% in all local governments of the state, but it is now up to those elected to prove that they are truly representing the interest of the majority of the people. May Allah guide, protect and bless your tenure. Mahmud Muhammad, Binyaminu Usman Polytechnic, Hadejia, Jigawa State.
