Taskforce meets with community leaders over gang, sara-suka

- From Lami Sadiq, Jos

Worried about the rising activities of a dangerous gang known as Sarasuka in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, Operation Safe Haven Commander, Major General Rogers Nicholas yesterday held a town hall meeting with community and religious leaders.

Stakeholders at the meeting included the sectors 1 and 2 commanders where the activities of the gang are rampant as well as religious and community leaders who painted grim pictures of the gang's activities.

While attending to complaints of a house harbouring some members of the gang, General Nicholas authorised the sector 2 commanders to investigate and go ahead to demolish the house.

He had earlier complained that some people were protecting some members of the gang and announced a decision to demolish any house harbouring them.

He stressed, “The issue of women coming out to prevent our men from arresting Sarasuka boys will never happen again. If any of your daughters is doing that, warn her. We arrested one of the girls the last time and we have handed her over to the community leader. Next time if we see her again, we will treat her like a man because I don’t see why a woman will come out and start doing useless protest to protect criminals unless she is also a criminal.”

The stakeholders commended the taskforce for the arrest of some members of the gang and expressed readiness to partner with security agents to fish out other gang members from the various communities.
