Police arrest 13 robbery suspects in Kano
NDLEA nabs man with N.5m worth cannabis
The Kano State Command of the Nigeria Police has arrested 13 suspected armed robbers with four stolen vehicles and sophisticated weapons.
Parading the suspects, yesterday, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Magaji Musa Majia, said two of the suspects, Yusuf Umar, 30, of Tokarawa village, and Amadu Mohammed, 33, of Kankan village, both in Gezawa Local Government Area were arrested at Tokarawa Quarters in Kano while on a robbery operation.
He said one revolver pistol, four rounds of live ammunition, a set of military-like uniform, one cutlass, two motorcycles and The Jigawa State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested one Mark Ukwuoba, with 64.75kg of weeds suspected to be cannabis.
The state Commandant of the agency, Josephine Obi, said Ukwuoba, 46, was arrested with cannabis valued at N500, 000 in Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
She said the suspect was arrested by the NDLEA while on routine patrol their operational vehicle, a Golf model with Registration No. AX 571 KMC, painted in taxi colour, were recovered from them.
Majia added that the suspects had confessed to belong to a six-man syndicate that had been operating and terrorising people in Gezawa.
Similarly, six members of a notorious syndicate of armed robbers who specialise in car/motorcycle snatching were arrested and a Golf wagon and three motorcycles were recovered from them.
He said two other suspected armed robbers who snatched a Sienna bus at gunpoint on June 29 were arrested and that the Sienna and one Volkswagen Golf III were recovered from them. along Chaichai village, noting that the cannabis was wrapped in 69 parcels and covered with polyethylene bags.
She said: “Honestly, the suspect was not our target, but we suspected him when he refused to allow our men to conduct a search on his bus. The consignment of the cannabis stocked in his car, with Registration Number Lagos 305 LND, was carefully concealed in a compartment constructed underneath the vehicle.

“The suspects confessed to the crime, and manhunt of the fleeing members of the syndicate is ongoing. The owner of the Sienna has been identified and the vehicle was handed over to him,” he said.
Another suspect, Yahaya Usman of Malali Quaters, Kaduna, in Kaduna State, a professional car thief, was also arrested with a black Honda Civic.
Majia further revealed that the command would not relent in its effort at liberating the state and keeping the hoodlums at bay, and that criminal hideouts would continue to be raided as detectives were tirelessly working round the clock to ensure discreet and thorough investigation of all suspects arrested. The commandant assured that the suspect would be arraigned as soon as the agency finished investigation.
Speaking to Daily Trust, the suspect said until his arrest, he never knew the gravity of the offence he had committed.
“I was a successful businessman. I sold handsets in Kano but lost my business after my shop, along Beirut Road, was burgled,” he concluded.
