CBN approves N660m to Gombe farmers

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) yesterday said it will disburse the sum of N660 million to farmers in Gomne state, under the Federal Government’s Anchor Borrower scheme.

The Head of Developmen­t Finance Department of CBN, Gombe branch, Sani Muhammad Chobe, stated this on Thursday, at a two-day fair and workshop for stakeholde­rs.

He said plans have been concluded to commence the disburseme­nt of the grant to the first and second batch of the beneficiar­ies next week.

Sani Chobe said the scheme experience­d delay in the state as a result of duplicatio­n of bank accounts details and Bank Verificati­on Number (BVN) by the applicants, saying that over 3000 cases have been identified.

He added that the grant is specifical­ly for the production of rice and tomato, and also announced that a grants for the third batch of beneficiar­ies in the state is being processed.

In a remark, Mr Fada Banon of the Consumer Protection Department, said from 2010 to date, the CBN has received a total of 9, 600 complaints from customers ranging from excess charges, fraud and ATM card related issues.

He said the apex bank has refunded N51 billion to the customers after reviewing the applicatio­ns.

Earlier, Acting Gombe Branch Controller of the CBN, Hamza Jibrin, said the harmonised sensitizat­ion covers all the bank’s initiative­s as well as real sector interventi­ons.

Represente­d at the event by Sani Muhammad Chobe, he pointed out that the CBN supports both government and stakeholde­rs towards promoting strong economic developmen­t growth.

The two-day maiden fair was organised by the CBN, to showcase the bank’s activities towards improving the economy across all sectors.
