I burgle houses to feed, says suspect

- From Shehu Umar, Gusau

A suspected burglar in Zamfara State, Adamu Abdullahi, has confessed that he burgles houses and steals valuables in order to feed himself.

Abdullahi told Daily Trust at the headquarters of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps headquarters in Gusau, yesterday, that he had burgled many houses in the metropolis before his arrest.

Narrating how he carried out his nefarious activities, Abdullahi said that he would first study the house he intended to enter to find a suitable place that he could gain access.

“I will then scale the fence and break a window with the aid of some gadgets and then take any valuable items that I come across. This is what I have been doing for some time to feed myself.

“I was into property, but I sold my house for N2.5m and bought the one I’m living in now. After the business collapsed due to lack of patronage, I took up house breaking as a ‘business’ but I’m regretting my actions,” he lamented.

Commandant of NSCDC in the state, Mr. David Abi, said they got a report about house breaking incidences and that his men swung into action leading to the arrest of the suspect.

He said some of the items recovered from the suspect included a Plasma TV, an electric iron, a satellite decoder, a cooking stove and pots, a DVD player, among others.

“The suspect lived in a well-furnished house. We got N115, 000 on him during our raid and as soon as we finish investigation, he will be charged to court.

Abi, therefore, warned criminals in the state to desist from the heinous act of breaking houses, adding that crime did not pay because a criminal must one day meet his or her waterloo no matter how long it took.
