Police rescue kidnapped pastor, arrest suspects in Kogi

The Kogi State Police Command said it has rescued a kidnap victim, Pastor Oliver Clement, from the hands of his abductors and arrested some of the suspects.

Spokesman of the Kogi State Police Command, Williams Aya, told Daily Trust that the victim, who hailed from Imani in Olamaboro Local Government Area, was abducted on July 9.

He said operatives from the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS), acting on intelligen­ce report, stormed the kidnappers’ hideout at Inye in Ankpa Local Government Area on July 13 and rescued the victim and that in the process, one of the suspects, Amodu Isah was arrested.

Aya said interrogat­ions revealed that the suspect was an old time criminal on the wanted list of the police, and that the police were on the trail of the fleeing members of his gang.

Aya said exhibits recovered from Isah included one locally made pistol, one life cartridge, one cutlass, a knife and two hammers.

In the same vein, Aya said the command arrested one Gade Garba of Fulani Camp, Suhu Koro in Kwara State, for offences bordering on kidnapping and armed robbery.

He said SARS operatives arrested the suspect on July 14 with two pump action rifles, one single barrel gun and two cutlasses.

Aya said all the arrested suspects would be charged to court after investigat­ions.
