Aworker with the National Assembly has been arrested by the police in Gwarinpa for allegedly defrauding one Onoja of N170,000 in the guise of helping him secure employment with a para military organisation.

A police source said the suspect, identified as Hannatu, collected the money in May but failed in securing employment for the victim in the Nigeria Customs or Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps as she had promised.

The victim, Onoja, reported the case at the police station when it dawned on him that the suspect must have defrauded him.

The Gwarinpa Divisional Police Officer, CSP Nuruddeen Sabo, said the suspect was arrested in Kubwa and was in custody.

“During interrogation, she confessed to receiving the said amount from the victim. Investigation is still going on,” he said. The police in Gwarinpa have arrested two suspects allegedly trying to steal solar panels attached to a Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) camera on Fourth Avenue.

Police sources said the suspects were caught in the act by crime prevention officers while on routine patrol at about 5:20am on Sunday.

The source said one of the suspects, Usman, was removing the panels and his accomplice, who was on the ground, both fled into the bush when they saw police officers.

The Gwarinpa Divisional Police Officer, CSP Nuruddeen Sabo, said the patrol team succeeded in arresting Usman with some of the panels.

He said in a bid to arrest the fleeing suspect, Usman was made to call and inform him that the police were willing to let him go if he settles them.

“He came with N7,000 and we arrested him with the money as exhibit,” he said.

He said the suspects would be prosecuted.
