Fire destroys Masaka market

Much of the Masaka market in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State has been destroyed by fire.

The fire incident started around 1:30am yesterday, according to the chairman, Karu Traders Associatio­n, Chief Sunday Danladi, who said over 200 luck-up and 2,005 open shops with cosmetics, foodstuffs, textile materials and other valuables were destroyed.

Danladi who said investigat­ion was on to unravel the cause of the fire, appealed for fire service to be stationed around the market area to help avert similar occurrence.

Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura has commiserat­ed with the victims of the fire disaster, saying he was highly disturbed by it.

Publicity to Al-Makura, said yesterday that the incident was a huge setback to the state and the country considerin­g the economic recession.

He urged management of markets to always employ techniques of averting fire disasters by ensuring adequate preventive measures and educating traders and other users on ways to prevent and combat fire.

Commiserat­ing with the affected victims of the inferno, the Interim Management Chairman of Karu LGA, Comrade Yin’ Allah Vundabo Iya who visited the scene along with the Esu Karu, Luka Panya Baba, consoled with the affected marketers and urged them to take it as an act of God.
