- By Abdullateef Salau

The Federal government has expressed its determination to implement e-government in a bid to ensure transparency and reduce the cost of public service administration in Nigeria.

Republic of Korea, through its development aid agency KOICA, has committed $8.56 million for implementation of e-government projects in Nigeria.

This includes drafting an e-government Master Plan, establishment of Training Centre and 5-year Capacity Building for 22,625 government officials.

Communications Minister, Barr. AbdurRaheem Adebayo Shittu, at the 5th InCountry training in Abuja, said government had put some strategic initiatives in place to promote the success of e-government in Nigeria.

Represented by Engr. N.Y Dauda, the minister said the training was to enhance easy and quick adoption of e-government in ministries, departments and agencies as well as aid the smooth implementation of its master plan.

South Korea Ambassador to Nigeria, Noh Kyu-duk, said his country had garnered international recognition in e-government and was ready to cooperate with Nigeria to strengthen strategic capacity level.

He said years of friendly bilateral cooperation between Nigeria and South Korea had birthed a number of development projects in health, education and agriculture.

KOICA country director, Sook Hyun Park urged the trainees to promote the benefits of e-governance which she said could turn into a ‘game changer’ if properly set up.

Since inception in 2013, 557 public officials have been trained in Nigeria in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd incountry training, while 117 others were trained in Seoul, Korea.
