SSANU condemns members’ sack in Uni Abuja

-

The National Executive Council of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has condemned what it called “victimization and illegal termination of appointments of the branch chairman and secretary of SSANU at university of Abuja”

The condemnation was contained in a communique issued at the end of a 2-day national executive council (NEC) meeting of the Association held in Ogun state.

The communiqué signed by its National President Samson C. Ugwoke said: “NEC in Session, noted with dismay and shock, the breaches and administrative infractions perpetrated by the Authorities at the University of Abuja, leading to the illegal suspension and eventual terminations of appointments of the Branch Chairman and Secretary of SSANU in the University. NEC noted that the process leading to these actions were unprocedural, unlawful and unconstitutional. NEC therefore urges the Minister of Education to prevail on the Governing Council of the University of Abuja to immediately recall our illegally terminated officers to avert a national industrial crisis.”

The union also said it noted with “bewilderment, the abandonment of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) owned jointly by Oyo and Osun States jeopardizing the careers of our members, lives of students and other members of the University community.” It urged the two State Governments not to allowed LAUTECH to rot, especially when the existing Universities cannot absorb the teeming prospective entrants.
