Plateau stay top after barren draw at Lobi Stars

- By Orkula Shaagee & Dotun Omisakin

Plateau United maintain their leadership of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), having held hosts Lobi Stars to a goalless draw at the Aper Aku Stadium in Makurdi yesterday. The same result was recorded in Minna where Niger Tornadoes hosted Abia Warriors, while Rivers United continued their rise to the top of the table with a 3-1 win over visiting Wikki Tourists of Bauchi at the Yakubu Gowon stadium in Port Harcourt.

Plateau now have 55 points from 31 matches while Lobi Stars who are now sixth on the table have 46 points from the same number of matches.

In Ilorin, Abubakar Chindo and Wasiu Alalade were on target as ABS overcame visiting Rangers International 2-0 in their Week 31 fixture yesterday. It was a great relief to the Ilorin-based soccer lords who have suffered successive defeats in recent weeks.

Kano Pillars also compounded Remo Stars’ misery with a 2-0 win at the Sani Abacha stadium yesterday to stay 10th on the log with 44 points from 30 games. Samuel Ganda and Sikiru Kamal were the goal scores for ‘Masu Gida’ side.

Akwa United also moved to the second spot on the table with 50 points after a 2-1 win over Nasarawa United in Uyo. John Ubong Friday and Christiaan Pyagbara scored for the Uyo side while Aminu Kadir reduced the tally for Wikki. Shooting Stars also defeated Enyimba 1-0 while the match between host IfeanyiUbah and Gombe United ended 2-2; just as Sunshine edged visiting ElKanemi Warriors 1-0 in Ijebu Ode.

Meanwhile the match involving hosts MFM and visiting Katisna United was shifted as the Agege Stadium venue was water-logged after a heavy downpour yesterday. The expected topflight duel was shifted forward to today.

The postponed match was decided after both teams came to an agreement that the pitch was unplayable in its current state.
