We gave other countries their advantage over us -Onu

The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, has said the Federal Government has initiated measures to use modern technology for raw materials processing to create jobs in Yobe and other northeastern states.

The minister who stated this during a visit to Raw Materials Research Development Project Office, Damaturu, Yobe State, said the ministry had conducted research and identified the raw materials with potentials to engage both small and medium scale entrepreneurs, adding that Nigeria must start to earnestly exploit its potentials instead of allowing such potentials to waste Matazu, and giving other countries undue advantage to get better often at the expense of Nigeria.

“It is very important to start using the raw materials to grow our small and medium scale entrepreneurs, and this would also give stiff competition to imported goods and create jobs in the state and wealth to the nation,” he said.

He said most of the world leading economies had relied on science and technology because they did not have raw materials and that they were reaping so much from such investment.

“Nigeria can do better than the countries we keep importing from. Our attitude gave them the opportunity to take away our jobs and aggravate poverty in the country,” he said.
