Gunmen shoot driver during robbery operation
A 57-year-old driver, Suleman Tajudeen, was shot yesterday by gunmen in a robbery operation along the Benin-Lagos road.
The gunmen numbering about 10, barricaded the Ore-Ofusu-Benin road at 4:30am, and Tajudeen, a contract driver attached to Complete Communications Limited, publisher of Complete Sports newspaper who ran into them, was shot in the head while he was attempting to flee.
The driver who spoke to journalists at the hospital, said after shooting him in the head, the armed robbers dispossessed him of N48,000 and a mobile phone, adding that they thought he had died from the gunshot when they saw him in a pool of blood before fleeing.
“I was driving towards Benin, between Ore and Ofusu, I saw their (robbers) wooden barricade. When I saw the barricade I stopped and tried to reverse. The robbers shot me. When I fell down and the vehicle stopped, they dragged me out of the vehicle, searched me and stole about N48,000 and my Nokia phone. I encouraged myself and managed to drive down to Benin.”
