Gun­men shoot driver dur­ing rob­bery op­er­a­tion

A 57-year-old driver, Sule­man Ta­judeen, was shot yes­ter­day by gun­men in a rob­bery op­er­a­tion along the Benin-Lagos road.

The gun­men num­ber­ing about 10, bar­ri­caded the Ore-Ofusu-Benin road at 4:30am, and Ta­judeen, a con­tract driver at­tached to Com­plete Com­mu­ni­ca­tions Lim­ited, pub­lisher of Com­plete Sports news­pa­per who ran into them, was shot in the head while he was at­tempt­ing to flee.

The driver who spoke to jour­nal­ists at the hos­pi­tal, said af­ter shoot­ing him in the head, the armed rob­bers dis­pos­sessed him of N48,000 and a mo­bile phone, adding that they thought he had died from the gun­shot when they saw him in a pool of blood be­fore flee­ing.

“I was driv­ing to­wards Benin, be­tween Ore and Ofusu, I saw their (rob­bers) wooden bar­ri­cade. When I saw the bar­ri­cade I stopped and tried to re­verse. The rob­bers shot me. When I fell down and the ve­hi­cle stopped, they dragged me out of the ve­hi­cle, searched me and stole about N48,000 and my Nokia phone. I en­cour­aged my­self and man­aged to drive down to Benin.”
