Operatives of the Trans-Ekulu Division of Enugu State Police Command yesterday gunned down one notorious armed robber and arrested three of his colleagues who were wounded during the gun duel.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ebere Amaraizu, who confirmed the incident in a statement, said the suspected robbers, had been terrorising Enugu residents.

He added that the robbers, armed with pump action rifles, had gone to rob residents of a house located at Onuakpa Street Trans-Ekulu, Enugu when a distress call came to the police who quickly went into action.

Amaraizu said the robbers had already finished robbing their victims and were about to abduct one of the occupants of the house, a 76-year-old Mercy Chijioke in her car before the operatives stormed the scene and engaged the robbers in a fierce battle.

“In the ensuing gun battle, one of the suspects was gunned down and later confirmed dead while others were fatally injured and arrested,” Amaraizu stated

The police in Jigawa State have arrested two notorious motorcycle thieves, Sadiq Sani and Idris Hassan, who specialise in stealing motorcycles at bank premises in Dutse Metropolis.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Rasheed Akintunde, told Daily Trust over the weekend that the suspects who used a locally fabricated master key, were part of the gang that had been terrorising bank customers in Dutse.

The CP said the suspects were both residents of Gwale Local Government Area in Kano State. He said when investigation deepened, the suspects confessed to have stolen the motorcycle which belonged to one Surajo Mohammed of Madobi village in Dutse Local Government Area.

The CP said: “On July 3, 2017, police on patrol in Dutse Metropolis sighted and suspected two young men trying to zoom off on a motorcycle, a Lifan Bullet model, at the premises of GTBank. When the policemen questioned the young men, they confessed to have stolen the motorcycle.

“The suspects further confessed to have been responsible for the theft of some motorcycles around bank premises in Dutse. A master key was recovered from the suspects which they said belonged to their gang leader, one Saddam, a resident of Gwale Local Government Area in Kano State.

Speaking to this reporter, one of the suspects, Idris Hasssan, said this was his first time of participating in such crime and that he went into it because he had no job.
