… Closed PDP secretariat in Awka
The police in Anambra have closed the state secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Daily Trust learnt that about twelve police officers from the state command stormed the party’s secretariat, saying they were there under instructions “from above” to prevent breakdown of law and order.
The party officers, who were at the secretariat to hold their State Executive Committee (SEC) meeting, were reportedly prevented from gaining access into the compound.
Briefing newsmen at the entrance of the secretariat, the state Legal Adviser of the party, Barr. Afam Akonanya, said they were taken aback “by the surprise mission of the police to the party secretariat.”
According to him, “Peace had return to the party soon after the Supreme Court judgement; no more factions in the party and therefore no reason for police to cordon off the place and prevent our party members from meeting.
