Use money for logistics on reconstruction – Yobe tells humanitarian agencies
Yobe State Deputy Governor, Abubakar D Ali yesterday called on humanitarian agencies operating in Yobe and the rest of the Northeast to inject the huge amounts they spend on house rent or hotel accommodation, exotic vehicles and personnel into reconstruction to improve lives of returnees.
The deputy governor who is also the chairman, Committee on Resettlement, Reconstruction and Rehabilitation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), stated this when he received the United Nations delegation led by Mr Christpen Rukasha in his office in Damaturu.
He said majority of the IDPs had relocated to their ancestral communities but basic infrastructures were yet to be provided.
“Although most of the IDPs have returned home, they still lack many facilities following the destruction by Boko Haram. We see some of these organisations spending huge resources on renting of houses, vehicles and personnel. These resources can be injected directly into reconstruction to improve the lives of the returnees,” he said.
