- From Nabob Ogbonna, Abakaliki

The Ebonyi State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Mrs Regina Iluebbey, yesterday lamented the low participation of females in the 2017 Batch ‘A’ stream orientation programme.

Iluebbey who made the complaint at the NYSC orientation camp during the visit of the NYSC Director General, Brig-Gen, Suleiman Kazaure, said it was regrettable.

She said however that the low member of females was the first experience in posting of corps members to Ebonyi state, disclosing that out of the total of 1,884 posted to serve in the state, only 172 were female, 54 of who were pregnant.

“We registered a total of 1, 884 corps members for the orientation programme comprising 1, 712 males and 172 females. Out of the 172 females, 54 of them are pregnant,” she said, adding that the pregnant ones had left the camp on instant relocation.

She charged the newly posted corps members to work on the unity of the nation whereever they were posted.
