Abia APC asks state speaker to resign

- From Linus Effiong, Umuahia

The APC in Abia yesterday demanded for the immediate resignation of the speaker of the state House of Assembly, Chikwendu Kalu, for allegedly giving directive to his security aides to shoot at FRSC officers on duty.

Leaders of the APC stated this at a press conference held at their secretariat in Umuahia.

APC’s Publicity Secretary in the state, Comrade Benedict Godson, also chided the security aides for allegedly carrying out an illegal directive.

But Kalu has since denied ordering his security aides to shoot two officers of the FRSC over alleged fracas with his wife. He made the denial while addressing newsmen in Umuahia.

The speaker, who condemned what happened, also said he was not at the scene of the incident contrary to reports that he stormed the scene with his security aides.

He said: “I was in my official residence in Umuahia when I received a distress call that my wife was having issues. I was also told that some of my security aides went to the scene to find out what happened. But I regret that fracas later ensued between them which led to the unfortunate incident,” he said.
