Kidnappers of Ikeja LG clerk demand N20m

Gunmen yesterday stormed the Imota home of the clerk of Ikeja Local Government Area, Mr. Shamsideen Abiodun Omotayo, and abducted him.

The clerk was abducted in the early hours of yesterday while he was about driving out of his residence for work.

The abductors have since made contact to admit keeping the clerk, and have demanded N20 million as ransom.

Though, the Lagos State Commission­er of Police, Fatai Owoseni, said that the command was yet to receive any such complaint, the Lagos State Neighbourh­ood Safety Agency (LNSA) Public Relations Officer, Mr. Afolabi Olawale, confirmed the incident, adding that already ransom demand had been made.

Olawale said, “This is to inform you of the kidnap incident of the clerk of Ikeja Local Government, Mr. Shamsideen Abiodun Omotayo. The clerk of the house was abducted at Imota on his way to work in the morning. The kidnappers have so far contacted the Head of Administra­tion of the Ikeja Council Area, Mrs. Mosunmola Otaiku-Okoka. They are demanding for N20 million. Meanwhile, efforts are still ongoing by concerned security agencies to rescue him.”

Also, a statement from the Ikeja Local Government signed by its informatio­n officer, Mr. Ademola Bello-Onilegbale, confirmed the incident.

The informatio­n officer who also confirmed the amount requested for as ransom by the kidnappers, said in a statement that the clerk had been allowed to speak with his immediate boss and they were demanding N20 million.
