Bauchi com­mences school feed­ing scheme

The Na­tional Home­Grown School Feed­ing pro­gram took off in Bauchi yes­ter­day.

A state­ment by the Special As­sis­tant to Gov­er­nor Mo­hammed Ab­dul­lahi Abubakar on Non-Gov­ern­men­tal Or­ga­ni­za­tions (NGOs) and So­cial In­vest­ment Pro­grammes ( SIPs), Mansur Manu Soro, said the pro­gramme en­gaged 3,261 peo­ple to cook for 307,013 pupils in over 2,000 pri­mary schools across the state.

He said the feed­ing of Bauchi State pupils would gulp the av­er­age sum of N21.4mil­lion daily and N537.2 mil­lion monthly.

“The pro­gramme seeks to pro­vide one free nu­tri­tion­ally bal­anced hot meal a day to pupils in all pub­lic pri­mary schools and by so do­ing, es­tab­lish a safety net for the poor and re­duce mal­nu­tri­tion in school-age chil­dren while stim­u­lat­ing the state agri­cul­tural econ­omy,” he said, adding, “In line with the pro­vi­sions of me­moran­dum of un­der­stand­ing, the Gov­er­nor Mo­hammed Abubakar-led ad­min­is­tra­tion will en­sure con­tin­u­ous lo­gis­ti­cal sup­port and ef­fec­tive im­ple­men­ta­tion of the pro­gramme,” he added.
