Ondo women chide Akeredolu over neglect
Agroup, the Ondo State Women Must Count (OSWMC), has faulted the list of names of commissioner nominees sent to the House of Assembly by Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
The women alleged that the governor had neglected them.
The coordinator of the group, Mrs Olamide Falana, in company of her members, yesterday in Akure, lamented that women were extremely marginalized in the list as the state house of assembly begins screening of the commissioner nominees today.
Akeredolu had sent 18 names for confirmation but with only two women.
She said the list signified “a total disregard to the yearnings of women in the state,” who she said initially had high hopes of a better representation.
Falana, who was the governorship candidate of Democratic Peoples Party (DPP) in the November 26, 2016 governorship poll, said considering their numerical strength, having two women as cabinet members was unacceptable.
Aside alleged marginalization, the women also criticized purported lopsided distribution in previous appointments by the governor.
Meanwhile, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Segun Ajiboye, s a i d it was not true the governor had sidelined women.
