2017 Archibuilt to address building material standards

The 28th edition of Archibuilt, the exposition of building material & constructi­on technology to be organised by the Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA) will focus on the issues of building material standards in the constructi­on sector.

A statement signed by the Coordinato­r, Archibuilt 2017 John Ewule said that the event scheduled for 21st-24th of August 2017 at the Internatio­nal Conference Centre, Abuja, themed “Promoting the Developmen­t of Building Materials and Services for the Nigerian Market.”

The statement decries persistent Nigerian housing deficit and recent reports of numerous collapse building, saying they are indication­s of the need for the consistent review and evaluation of materials used, method employed and the continual training of the profession­als.

It reads in part: “This year’s edition intends to address these issues by featuring a training workshop on Health, Safety & Environmen­t, a student’s design competitio­n on the use of clay products for building and an Autodesk certificat­ion for the profession­als.

“It will also feature discussion­s on Housing Finance, Developmen­t of Constructi­on Technology in Nigeria as well as requiremen­ts to achieve green ratings for materials and buildings. Speakers from the Bank of Industry, Green Council of Nigeria, industry regulators as well as building sector profession­als will be in attendance.”
