Youth group condemns search for Buhari’s successor
The Democratic Youth Congress (DYC) has condemned media reports on purported search for the replacement of President Muhammadu Buhari by three former military presidents.
The national chairman of the group, Hon. Kassim Muhammed Kassim, who spoke at a press conference at the weekend in Abuja, said such a move was not only an act of betrayal but an assault against the collective wishes of the Nigerian people.
It was reported in one of the national dailies (not Daily Trust) that former presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, General Ibrahim Babangida and General Abdulsalami Abubakar were considering the likes of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Donald Duke and Adams Oshiomhole, all former governors, as replacement for the president come 2019.
Kassim, who is a member of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly representing Akwanga South, said the search smacked of hypocrisy and intent to cause political disharmony in the polity.
The lawmaker said at no time had Buhari confided in any of them about his future political plans, adding that the said former leaders lacked the moral standing to chart a political course for a country they ignominiously mismanaged.
