Police arrest kidnapper of Zaria water project engineer

- From Isa Sa’idu, Zaria

Police have succeeded in arresting one of the two kidnappers of a Chinese Engineer working with firm handling the Zaria water project.

Zhang Lijun works with CGC Construction Company and was kidnapped on Monday at Dakace village on the outskirt of Zaria, along Jos road, while on his way to the project site.

Confirming the arrest yesterday, Kaduna state police command public relations officer, ASP Yakubu Sabo, said the police have rescued the victim and recovered some items from the suspected kidnappers.

Sabo appealed to residents to continue to furnish police with information that will assist in addressing the menace of kidnapping and other crimes.

A source told Daily Trust how Lijun was kidnapped; “he was with his driver, Haruna Mohammed, when two people attacked them with a pistol, dropped the diver and move away with Lijun. The suspected kidnappers, Paul Ochalla from Rivers state and one other person from Akwa-Ibom, who is now at large, tried to run away with him but luck ran out of them.

“Good Samaritan that suspected abnormal movement of the Hilux vehicle alerted the DPOs of Zaria city and Tudun Wad area of Zaria. The police successfully arrested one of the suspects, Paul Ochalla, at the Zaria Eid praying ground, Kofar Doka. It later emerged that the suspected kidnapper was a former staff of the project but was dismissed last year due to his dubious acts.”
