NSCDC arrests ex-convict over theft in Jigawa

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Jigawa Command yesterday said it arrested a 24-year-old ex-convict over alleged theft of a tablet and two smart phones.

The NSCDC Commandant in the state, Malam Muhammad Durumin-Iya, told newsmen in Dutse that the suspect, a resident of Yalwawa quarters, was arrested in Rafinsanyi­Sanyi area, in Dutse Local Government Area of the state.

Durumin-Iya said the suspect was arrested after he burgled the residence of some youth corps members on Aug. 3 at Sabuwar Maranjuwa quarters at about 9.30 p.m.

“The suspect sneaked into the apartment of the corps members while they were asleep and carted away one Techno tablet, Techno N9 smartphone and one Gionnee smartphone.

“The tablet is valued at N25,000, the Techno smartphone N16,000 and the Gionee smartphone costs N32,000.

“The suspect is an ex-convict. He was arrested last year and charged to court for burglary and was imprisoned for two months,” the commandant said

Durum-Iya said the suspect had confessed to committing the offence and would soon be charged to court. (NAN)
