Police rescue man chained for over 1 year in Lagos

- From Eugene Agha, Lagos

Detectives attached to the Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Police yesterday rescued a middle aged man who was allegedly put in chains by his mother for over one year in Mushin.

Sources said that the victim, Bolaji Sholola, was rescued at number 18 Damigoro Street, Mushin.

The 85-year-old grandmother of the victim allegedly told the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni that the victim’s mother chained him because he was mentally unstable and he needed to be prevented from straying and possibly attacking residents. She also said it was meant to help them take proper care of him.

The man has since been taken to the Lagos State Psychiatric Hospital in Yaba for medical attention by the Area D police Commander.
