3 men charged with theft of N25,000 phone

Three men, who allegedly stole a Tecno phone valued at N25,000, were on Thursday brought before a Surulere Chief Magistrate­s’ Court in Lagos.

The three accused - Alade Ibrahim, 21; Sheriff Osine, 18; and Qudus Adewusi, 19 - whose addresses were not provided, are facing a threecount charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.

They all denied charge.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Anthonia Osayande told the court that the three men and others now at large committed the offences on Aug. 7 at 8.45 p.m. along Eric Moore Road by Itolo Street, Surulere.

According to her, the three men conspired and snatched a Tecno phone valued at N25, 000 from a woman, Aminat Odebiyi, while walking on the street.

“The accused collected the phone from her and ran away. When the case was reported at the police station, the complainan­t was able to recognise one of the accused persons.”

The offences contravene­d Section 168(h), 287 (5a) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015 (Revised).

The Magistrate, Mr Aro Lambo, granted the accused N50, 000 bail each with one surety each in like sum.

He said the surety must be gainfully employed with an evidence of tax payment to the government.
