Seven arrested for refining, distributing adulterated diesel in Lagos
Operatives of the Nigerian Navy attached to NNS BEECROFT have arrested about seven persons for allegedly refining and distributing adulterated diesel in Lagos.
An oil vessel, MT WOLOF which was laden with over 300 metric tones of the illegally refined Automated Gas Oil (AGI) was also recovered from the suspects.
The seven-crew-member and the diesel were handed over to the officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The Commander, Nigerian Navy Ship Beecroft, Commodore Morris Eno, told journalists that Nigerian Navy Ship Beecroft patrol team intercepted and arrested the vessel around the Lagos Safe Anchorage Area on 30th June, 2017.
He added that sample of the product on-board the vessel was taken for laboratory test but the result indicated that the product did not meet specifications of the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) and Standard Organisation of Nigeria(NSO).
He,however, reiterated the resolved of the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibas to phase out all forms o illegalities on Nigerian waters even as he sounded a note of warning to intending criminals within the waterways to desist as nobody would be spared.
The commander also called on the general populace to give useful information that can lead to the arrest of persons engaged in illegal acts within the Nigerian maritime domain.
