1 nabbed, 5 on the run over cattle rustling

A Katsina Magistrate court has remanded one Ibrahim Bammi of Unguwar Yaro village in the Kafur local government area of Katsina State in prison over the theft of 119 cows and 48 sheep.

Five others have also been declared wanted by the police in connection to the theft. They are Wada Jargaba, Mallam Jargaba, Alhaji Babangida, Kawara Isa and Tashi Kawara belonging to the gang that carried out the robbery.

The prosecuting officer Ado Sani told the court that the gang armed with AK 47 rifles attacked the children of one Abdulrahaman Wada of Yar-Sharu village, Kafur local government area, who relocated to Sabon Birni forest in Kaduna State for grazing and robbed them of the animals.

Upon interrogation, the arrested suspect Bammi confessed to have conspired and committed the offence together with the five suspects at large, he said.

Sani told the court that investigation is still on-going, but said the matter can continue as police search for remaining culprits.

The Presiding Senior Magistrate Abdulkareem Umar adjourned the case to 23, August 2017, for mention and orders for the suspect to be remanded in prison.

Meanwhile, the police have recovered 42 cows believed to have been stolen from one Juli Lawal, 56, of Masuku village in Kankara. The state police command spokesman DSP Gambo Isah said the victim reported the matter when masked armed men stormed his house to drive away the animals.

“We have since handed over the animals to their owner,” he added.
