Agric fair targets 2,600 tractors for farmers

- From Andrew Agbese, Kaduna

A firm, Global Exhibition and Business Services, has scheduled an agricultural and solid minerals fair to boost farming and solid mineral development in the North.

The chairman of the conglomerate, Alhaji Bawa Garba, known popularly as ABG, said at a press conference in Kaduna that the fair would attract 2,600 tractors valued at N17 billion to the country which would be distributed on hire to farmers.

The chairman explained that the fair would also include solid minerals to rediscover the sector, address illegal operations, and coordinate exports.

The firm is made up of former director generals of chambers of commerce in Northern Nigeria, according to ABG who said the entrepreneurs decided to come together to do something in line with the current federal government’s initiative to diversify the economy by encouraging farming.

“Government is placing emphasis on agriculture and solid minerals because they discourage reliance on oil because that is the future of Nigeria. So all the past directors of chamber of commerce who have experience in organizing fairs came together to incorporate Global Exhibition and Business Services so that it would give the required support to the federal government in enlightening people and encouraging farmers,” he said.
