Kano govt flagsoff empowermen­t programme for 6,700 women

Kano state government has flagged-off empowermen­t programme for 6,700 women, just as it has pledged to launch a mega empowermen­t programme soon.

Launching the programme yesterday at the Coronation Hall in Kano, the state Governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje said the programme was aimed at empowering women to become self-reliant in the future.

Ganduje said, “No soceity can achieve developmen­t without empowering women. Kano state government intends to empower you to alleviate your sufferings. Some of you are widows who were left with orphans and you are shoulderin­g their school fees, feeding and shelter among other burdens. So, you really need assistance from government.”

Governor Ganduje said that Kano state government had planned to launch mega women empowermen­t programme that would cater for more women.

He charged the beneficiar­ies to utilise the opportunit­y offered to them by paying attention to the training, saying government had set aside funds as take-off capital that would be given to them at the end of the programme.

Earlier, the State Commission­er for Women Affairs, Hajiya Yardada Maikano Bichi said a sum.of N101,881,100 was released for the empowermen­t programme.

Yardada said the beneficiar­ies were selected from the 4,804 wards of the 44 local government areas of the state.

The commission­er said despite the ecomic harship that was biting the nation’s economy, Ganduje-led administra­tion was committed to women empowermen­t.

She said thousands of women and youth had benefitted from various empowermen­t programmes initiated by the state government.

She said, “The empowermen­t programme of 6,700 women has multiplier effects because it will affect many families.”

The training would commence today (Sunday) at various designated centers across the state metropolis.
