CITY NEWS Butchers ban underage children ‘Why I want to contest for Abuja South rep ticket’ from abattoirs, markets

- By Abubakar Sadiq Isah By Adam Umar

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the FCT, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Ahmad, has said his desire to contest for the House of Representatives seat was to give the youth a sense of belonging.

He said he would contest for the Abuja South Federal constituency seat in 2019.

Ahmad, while addressing newsmen shortly after he held a meeting with APC women leaders in Kuje on Saturday, said he had consulted people at the grassroots before making the decision.

He observed that Abuja South lacked educational revolution, which, he said, was the step that would take the youth further than they are.

“Because, if collectively the four area councils are ably and duly represented, we can come up with some techniques where we will empower the intelligent students,” he said.

He said he had been supporting women through empowerment programmes, adding that vulnerable children and widows would also be given necessary attention.

Butchers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have banned underage children from abattoirs or markets during school hours.

The butchers also plan setting an educational support fund to help indigent children among them.

The leader of the butchers, Aminu Lawal Baqin-Ruwa, said the decision was part of resolutions reached at the end of the group’s executives’ meeting at Dei Dei Livestock Market.

He urged parents among their members, to enrol their children into school when schools resume.

Baqin-Ruwa said members would be taxed and the money used to support the educational needs of vulnerable children to increase literacy level among their members.

He said the meeting was attended by representatives of the butchers from the six area councils.
