FCT stakeholders unite against hate speeches
Politicians, elder statesmen and other stakeholders have condemned the spate of hate speeches and protests in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The stakeholders said there was no need for people to protest naked regardless of their agitations. They called for a united front for the natives to table their grievances to the President and the National Assembly.
The stakeholders who made this known during a meeting organised by the chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Abdullahi Adamu Candido, urged residents to imbibe the spirit of peaceful coexistence for the unity of the country. Candido condemned nude protests and other agitations over issues which, he said, should be approached with maturity and dialogue.
Traditional rulers at the event, including the Chief of Jiwa, Alhaji Idris Musa, who called for a peaceful environment and urged politicians to put the interest of the residents above their party and personal interests.
Senator Jibrin Wowo said the problem of hate speech concerned the entire residents.
He urged elected councillors and council chairmen to sensitise their constituents in the six area councils
The House of Representatives member, representing AMAC and Bwari Federal Constituency, Zephaniah Jisalo, said he sponsored a bill for the nomination of a resident of FCT as a minister.
He said he has been pursuing the bill for the past two years and urged the electorate to elect representatives in 2019 that would champion the affairs of the FCT.
On his part, Senator Philip Aduda said the natives should continuously intimate Nigerians on their plights but cautioned against hate speeches.
He said, “We must only do those things that promote the peace and unity of Nigeria.”
